Rocky Mountain Bats Fall Nealy Silent in 8-2 Jackalopes Win
The Rocky Mountain Vibes (18-9) slumped into an 8-2 loss to the Grand Junction Jackalopes (11-16) on Friday night.
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Rocky Mountain Vibes (18-9) slumped into an 8-2 loss to the Grand Junction Jackalopes (11-16) on Friday night.
Only one player marked a multi-knock game for the hometown crew, and that was right fielder Sam Linscott. Only second baseman Alex Adams joined him in the hit column.
On defense, Linscott and first baseman Gary Lora nabbed highlight reel catches, sliding to snowcone the ball in the first and eighth innings, respectively.
The pitching line marked the second loss in as many outings for starter C.J. Backer Jr. The right-hander allowed eight runs on 10 hits with five walks and one strikeout across 5.1 innings. Lefty Caleb Strack shined in relief with 3.2 shutout frames, allowing just two baserunners (both on hits) and striking out three.
The best Rocky Mountain can do now is a series split, so the Vibes get their first chance to avoid losing the first setup against the Jackalopes on Saturday night with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. Vibes fans can arrive early to catch the second Home Run Derby at Blocktickets Park at 5:30 p.m. Once gametime follows, LHP Nick Powers makes his first appearance of the week for RMV, and it's RHP Zach Zaborowski for GJJ. Coverage kicks off on Flo Baseball at 5:15 p.m. with the Rocky Mountain Pre-Game Report.
