Vibes Drop Finale for First Series Loss of 2025 in Sunday Matinee, Stranding Tying Run on Second Base
The Rocky Mountain Vibes (19-10) suffered their first series loss of the season four games to two with a 5-4 defeat against the Grand Junction Jackalopes (12-17) on Sunday, Jun. 22.
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Rocky Mountain Vibes (19-10) suffered their first series loss of the season four games to two with a 5-4 defeat against the Grand Junction Jackalopes (12-17) on Sunday, Jun. 22.
Rocky Mountain never led in the cat-and-mouse game, but a two-run double from catcher Otto Jones tied up the contest in the fifth inning to add a spark, as he did so with his family sitting in the second row behind home plate.
This marked the third time that the Vibes outhit an opponent and still lost the game, battering the Grand Junction pitching staff to the tune of 12 hits to their six.
RMV saw multi-knock performances from Jones, center fielder Carter Booth, right fielder Sam Linscott, and first baseman Gary Lora.
On the mound, RHP Malik Binns tossed 5.0 IP, surrendering three runs (only one of which was earned) with three hits, six walks, and a trio of strikeouts. The struggles arrived when reliever Chase Gockel made his Vibes debut, hitting three batters with a pitch during his 0.2 IP, allowing two runs with a walk on no hits and no strikeouts. Left-hander Gabe White followed him up with a perfect 1.1 IP including a strikeout. Righty Caleb Strack also dealt a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one batter and allowing two hits. Closer Trey Morrill shut down Grand Junction in the ninth with one hit allowed and one K, but the bats could not support him to come from behind in the bottom half of the final frame.
Next up, the Vibes hit the air to fly to California for their second series against the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers.
